The Good Wife—3.12: Alienation of Affection (zoom)
This is probably my favorite episode of the season so far.
CBS said it was trying everything it could think of to alert fans of “The Good Wife” when the show would not be starting on time. That included sending a fusillade of messages on the network’s Twitter feed; posting the information on CBS.com and CBS’s Facebook page; messages scrolled every five to six minutes at the bottom of the television screen after the end of the games; and even something called an Eye-Lert, which use e-mails and text messages to warn subscribers to this CBS service that a show may be delayed.
Remember back when CBS announced they were moving this show to Sundays how I said something to the effect of this being the network’s stupidest decision ever made? YEAH. And they’re just now taking notice. Because 60 Minutes just has to be shown in its entirety even if a game runs long. Nice game plan, CBS!
Even if there isn’t a late game preceding it (there wasn’t one here in the Chicago market, but there were ones in other major broadcast markets), any Sunday night programming on CBS gets trounced by NBC’s Sunday Night Football. It’s too late in the season to do some shuffling, as all of CBS’ new hourlong programming got full-season pickups (and thus there’s really nowhere to put The Good Wife where it would do as well or better than its old Tuesday timeslot), and come midseason, NFL games will no longer be a problem - though March Madness might - but there’s a bunch of midseason programming that’ll need homes as well. So for now, it looks like The Good Wife really can’t win… and it’s all CBS’ fault.

The season premiere of The Good Wife won’t air here for about another hour (thanks to CBS and their bullshit “60 Minutes must air its entirety when football runs long” rule); I’d really like to watch it in HD on our big-screen television, but that means watching football for an hour… and missing the premiere of Pan Am, which is the other show I’d really like to watch in HD.
HOWEVER. There is a download of the premiere floating around the internets, and that would solve my time problem… but not my desire to watch in HD problems.
What to do, what to do.
No. You don’t explain anything. You do not put a single thing in context. You slept with my husband. You do not say anything after that. You do not. It is selfish… to say anything after that. I work here and you work here, but that’s it. When you can find another case, do it. When you can walk the other way, do. Now get out of my office.
The Good Wife, season 2.
